Music Spotlight - Episode 68 Let It Be Jesus
I have learned that the songs truly come from God doing a deeper work in my heart. For those of you who know what a "deeper work" means, you know that it often involves pain, pruning, an emptying and a laying down of yourself like never before. The songs are simply the overflow of it all. In a recent interview I was asked "how do you practice (or live) what you sing?" The first thing I thought of was the age old question, "which comes first, the chicken or the egg?" The songs are, in a way, "practiced" first...they are lived before they are birthed and shared with others. As I simply keep putting into practice what Jesus first put into practice for me, what happens is He keeps me singing. As I bend to His will and surrender to His way, the songs come. Should I practice what I sing, absolutely, but make way for a new song... Yes, these crucial moments of pruning, shaping and refinement can become the very language of our most authentic song and it is always for the sharing. For you, it might look and sound different than an actual song, but for me, it looks like this... Let it Be Jesus is an offering. It's an offering to Jesus and to the world around me as if to say, "He keeps me singing!"
